Trying to get specific about my type before getting new HS and reel stuff. \-Any actors I remind you of? \-Any character types / age I could play? \-Tv/film/theatre universes you could see me existing in? Thanks so much. Photos: [http://daveamarr.com/main.html#photos-wrap](http://daveamarr.com/main.html#photos-wrap) Re…

It seems Canadian actors are even toning it down in Canadian productions produced by CBC. This is making me feel insecure, I feel like I couldn't even get work on productions in my own country at this point if this is the case. I have tried to flatten some of my vowels but it's hard and there are other features and int…

Hey guys, I'm a directing student coming up on my thesis film. I think I'm okay with actors but there's always one thing that gets my head in knots which is the whole concept of getting an actor to go bigger or smaller. I've been told "bigger" and "smaller" on their own are bad directions (although I have also heard th…

Hi, to those who are reading this much many of you I too wish to become a voice actor but there is a problem. I talk too fast and no matter how much I try I can't seem to slow the pace. Sometimes even in conversation, I'll speed up to the point I'd have to repeat my statement. If anyone has any advice on how I can slow…

I’ve noticed with lots of actresses, they tend to have very relaxed faces but somehow don’t lose the emotion when they speak. Other than good training, I figure many likely get Botox for areas such as their eyebrows and forehead to help not be overly expressive. Random question I know lol, but how common is this in Hol…

Hey guys, I just wanted to post a quick rant/encouragement for those that are veterans in this industry and those that are newcomers. It is well known that the power dynamics at play lend themselves to abuse, from directors, producers, other actors, or just crew members not respecting your process. In the year of our L…

Hello actors of Reddit! Here's a friendly tip from our team of dentists and hygienists to help you keep those beautiful teeth happy and healthy. Take a moment. Connect with your body. What is your jaw doing? Are you (like millions of others) clenching or grinding? For many who have had so much uncertainty around their…

I’m creating a animated short film currently talking with voice actors and they frequently use the term ‘$___ per line”. In your community is a line considered a single sentence(ending with a period or some type of exclamation point) or is a line considered the entire segment of dialogue a character speaks regardless o…

I'm in the beginning stages of planning a character demo reel and I'm looking to browse some inspiration of similar voiced voice actresses. (of course I'm not going to copy anyone's voice or script, just looking to get some ideas and see how similar actresses are using their voice in way I may not have thought of.) So…

Wondering what everyone thinks is a reasonable amount of actors for a single agent to manage on their own? My current agent has 120+ clients (I’m in Canada). This is all under a single agent, for both film/tv and commercials with no other agents at the agency. It seems like this is a lot, can my agent really have time…

Just out of curiosity. I was on IMDBPro today, looking at agency rosters, and I saw two people who stood out. An actress signed with Paradigm: a U5 in a TV movie, wasn’t a child. An actor signed with ICM: one low grossing film and a TV pilot, also not a child. I looked up their names and didn’t see any famous relations…

A big LA agency wants to sign me. I took a chance by asking for a referral through another actor that I kindly met at an industry event (before covid) and something *incredible* came out of it. Hi! I’d like to know your opinions. Whom would you consider a better actor: A has *mastered* a certain type (or two, or three, even) of character, but rarely leaves his comfort zone; B is more versatile and can play more types of characters, but his performances are generally regarded as just good/solid.
