New Messages Appear Without Refreshing the Page
The admin now receives updates as they happen. A message arriving while you are editing your credits shows up immediately, in the counter and in the list, without you doing anything.
Why this is not just polish
The old behavior had a specific failure. You would open the admin, see nothing waiting, spend twenty minutes updating your gallery, and close it. A message that arrived in minute two sat unseen until the next time you happened to log in, which might be a fortnight.
The window in which replying is useful is short, as noted in visitor messages in your dashboard. Twenty minutes is not the problem. Fourteen days is.
What arrives live
- Contact form messages.
- New press mentions we have found.
- Account and security events.
- Anything that changes a counter, so the counters stay correct while you work.
Deliberately quiet
No sound. No pop-up over what you are doing. No permission prompt asking to send you desktop notifications, which is a request nobody has ever been pleased to receive.
The counter changes and a small line appears at the edge of the screen. If you are in the middle of writing your bio, nothing interrupts you. That restraint is the design, not an oversight.
How it behaves badly, on purpose
If the live connection cannot be established, and on some networks it cannot, the admin falls back to checking periodically. You will see updates within a minute or so instead of instantly, and nothing tells you anything is wrong, because from your point of view nothing is.
Leaving the admin open overnight suspends the connection rather than holding it, and it resumes when you come back to the tab.

This is only practical because of the dashboard rebuild, which separated the page from the data. What reaches you at all is controlled in notification preferences.
